Situation similaire a ATY

"The unusual first quarter development is that two of our major
customers, in the widely separate fields of networking and tape storage
equipment, have unexpectedly and simultaneously reduced their volume
requirements," says Raymond J. Farnham, Hi/fn Chairman and CEO. "The
reductions are primarily due to inventory adjustments. The virtual
private network (VPN) market, the primary end market served by our
networking customers, is moving ahead with all major equipment
networking manufacturers participating. However, as with any rapidly
growing market segment, short-term adjustments at individual providers
will occur."

"We are lowering our rating on Hi/fn from a Buy to a Long-Term
Attractive, following the company's pre-announcement conference call
yesterday after the market closed," said Veerappan. "The company
pre-announced that fiscal-fourth-quarter 1999 results would come in
above our revenue and earnings-per-share estimates of $14.0 million and
$0.37, respectively, led by strong sales to its networking customers,
of which Ascend comprises approximately 80 percent of revenues."

"In addition, the company indicated that sales would likely decline and
come in around the $10 million mark for the December quarter, led by
inventory corrections at the company's two largest customers, Quantum
and Ascend," said Veerappan. "While we had indicated that incremental
strength in the December quarter would clearly slow down when compared
to previous quarters, the company's current guidance does represent an
even more substantial change."

Mon opinion...
