Combat is I THINK defined as line personal as well. You get combat pay for that. Check it out- same as for being on a battleship in a combat zone. Again CHECK it out. I wasn't only talking about ground pounding grunts. But guys stateside were clearly (imo) not in combat. DUMB-- would that be add hominem? Or were you merely calling my post- which you completely misunderstood, dumb? And would you mean "without speech" or would you mean "stoopid"?

Sure. My father-in-law spent most of the war with Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) with Eisenhower, both in London and Paris. He was mustered out a master sergeant, after serving as chief clerk for the intelligence division, and was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service, so crucial was he considered to the operation of SHAEF. He also suffered from having to spend the entire war overseas, and from the Blitz. So much for rear echelon. Anyway, some of his veteran buddies saw more action, some didn't even leave stateside, but they all felt a bond for doing service, with all of its impositions......
