IF part of his job was to constantly review raw footage of combat and it's aftermath, this job was not a day at the beach and might easily result in personal identification with combat forces.

I agree. But IF this was the case, all biographers have omitted any mention of it, except through his own memories, which have a precedent for inaccuracy. The consensus appears to be that he was involved in the production of training films.
