I totally agree that my definition of libertarianism is feudal, in fact I think libertarianism is in some ways feudal. I agree company towns were horrendous but I maintain that "workers rights" legislation is not libertarian. I think in the libertarian state one party can do almost anything to another party as long as its a mutually agreed upon arrangement. Working in company towns, prostitution - what is the difference? Both are bad things people do in order to survive, right?

I agree with this post, but would like to point out that some libertarians would argue that the workers in the company town are free to make another contract, if they can. I would argue that a contract of adhesion isn't a freely negotiated contract, but there are a lot of libertarians who would disagree with me. At any rate, nothing but economic need forced the workers to sign on for the deal, which is Lizzie's point. We can all agree that it sucks.

Edit: I see you guys already worked this out. Over 150 posts since I logged off the a.m., most of them seem to be about Ronald Reagan's military service, and whether or not a desk job is cushy or not. Yawn.
