Topfer, Vice Chairman of Dell Computer Corporation, has been elected to serve as a member of its Board of Directors. The appointment is effective October 1, 1999. Topfer joined Dell Computer in 1994 and is one of three members of the company's Office of the Chief Executive Officer. He previously served as Corporate Executive Vice President at Motorola, Inc. where he spent 23 years. Topfer also serves on the board of British Sky Broadcasting Group Plc. In making the announcement, the company noted that Topfer brings to Pharmacia & Upjohn a wealth of experience leading global companies in complex, innovation-driven industries. His appointment to the Board of Directors reflects the company's continuing commitment to build for long-term strength. As a member of Pharmacia & Upjohn's Board of Directors, Topfer will serve on the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committees.
