Anna in Virginia,

Guess The Street didn't like the idea of SNDK producing their own chips...

Megamarkets...
Immense Potential...
Critically Important Milestone...

I firmly believe the collective wisdom of this very Thread dwarfs The Street understanding of SanDisk and its position in the marketplace. Hell, they NY Times even left SanDisk out of a cover technology piece on flash memory a few months back.

And after all, The Street was selling off SNDK one year ago this week at prices below book value and approaching cash value.

As it may play out, I believe that SanDisk will utilize its CompactFlash business to front money for wafer manufacturing of technologies that will compete with or replace CF eventually. I think you will be able to count the number of companies able to boast such heady plans on one hand.

R&D expenses and capital equipment purchases for the joint venture with Toshiba (and Matsushita) will have an effect on earnings in 2000. Maybe The Street thinks that SNDK will be dead money for the next few quarters.

I had a wish list back a few months ago. A list of fantasy announcements that could propel SanDisk faster and further than ever imagined. Well, some unexpected gifts have arrived in the last few weeks.

Anna in Virginia,

I have learned a few things in the past year. One important lesson is that Dr. Harari chooses his words very carefully. He doesn't say anything without great forethought and purpose. It's up to you to read between the syllables and, as it has turned out, he hasn't left much room for misinterpretation. Maybe The Street was too busy sipping a lattè to hear this...
