Tom, I don't use Excel, but Lotus 1-2-3 has an option to
show negative values in red. Maybe Excel has that too?
But that would still require you to set up an extra column.

in the Format menu there should be a Conditional Formatting item. in there you can change the formatting of a cell according to test conditions.
