Dutch firm to set up Internet JV with Wipro wipro.com 1999-10-08 19:59:36 (Probity) Dutch KPN Telecom NV today announced the setting up of a joint venture with Wipro Limited to provide Internet services in India. The deal is expected to be signed by mid-November. KPN plans to invest $16.26mn in the venture and hold 45% of shares in the new company, Wipro Net. The remaining 55% of shares would be held by Wipro Limited. KPN, a major provider of Internet services in the Netherlands, plans to use its technical and commercial expertise within the joint venture to develop the consumer market. Wipro Net currently provides intranet and extranet services. The company has been focusing on providing Internet services to the Indian business market. Wipro plans to offer web hosting services and e-commerce applications and will add multimedia services such as web-based call centers and broadband applications.
