Contiguity of landmass - India and Kashmir. The Americans did not have that luxury in Vietnam. A difference that doesn't matter all that much in the end because what really matters is that both cases present the situation of a disaffected populace that can provide a safe haven to the guerrillas, who can keep the fighting going forever, if need be. Continuous pacification of Kashmiris This is not a war against Kashmiri muslims, but is war against terrorists, enemies of the state and LAW & LOC breakers. Benignity towards law abiding citizens in Kashmir. Total nonsense, considering that several human rights organizations have documented innumerable cases of human rights violations perpetrated by the Indian armed forces against ordinary residents of Kashmir. Guarantee no forced immigration of Indians in to Kashmir - India could have made it in to another TIBET. Kashmir for Kashmiris under Indian constitution as said above. True, but only so far. However, the Indian government's actions in opposing the NATO operation in Kosovo have given rise to suspicions that it could happen in the future. And if the RSS and VHP goons have things their way, it could very well happen. For, repealing the autonomy accorded to J&K has been on their agenda for as long as anybody can care to recall.
