Here's a story:

Just recently a judge in Cebu, the second-largest city in this country, convicted 5 young men, two of whom came from rich & influential families, of raping two teenaged sisters and tossing them off a cliff. He's a vocal pro-lifer, and refused to impose the death sentence, which produced a lot of protests.

Yesterday this judge was found dead in a hotel room, a bullet literally in one ear and out the other. There was a suicide note, with numerous spelling errors. According to the news coverage:

An autopsy... showed 13 contusions in various parts of Ocampo's body.
There were bruises on both eyes and the stomach, and cuts below the right eye, on the forehead and on both wrists and ankles.

Sounds like one hell of a determined suicide. Tied himself up, beat himself up, shot himself through the head, and managed to untie himself and get rid of the ropes before dropping dead.

We get 'em like that here. I remember a young actor who was shagging the daughter of one of the top Marcos honchos. He shot himself in the head too. Four times. With a .357 magnum.

That's determination.
