Over 522 electronic companies and numerous trade associations from more than 23 countries were at hand at the opening of the Japan Electronics Show '99 last October 5 at the Makuwari Messe in Chiba. Products exhibited at the show included large-screen TVs, new digital information home appliances and several digital prototypes, such as Matsushita Electric Industrials' DVD-RAM video recording equipment. Pioneer will exhibit it DVD-RW recording equipment, while Samsung will demonstrate its DVD-VR prototype. The trade fair will close on October 9, and more than 400,000 visitors are expected.
