From the story, it looks like Xerox started off with a royalty game, which is good, but I don't think that qualifies them in the same realm as Cisco or Microsoft.

I had the same thought when I read the post about Xerox. It sounds like there were no high-switching costs from Xerox copiers, once there were adequate alternatives on the market.

The same obviously cannot be said for Microsoft.
