FRANKFURT, Germany (Reuters) - Deutsche Telekom AG is considering selling its 25 percent stake in telecoms partnership Global One to France Telecom, the German group's chief executive said in an interview.

``If the French offer a good price they can have the whole thing,' Deutsche Telekom Chief Executive Ron Sommer said in an interview with the weekly Focus due for publication Monday.

A Deutsche Telekom spokesman told Reuters that the German group was in ongoing talks with France Telecom over Global One.

``We are interested in a speedy resolution,' he said.

The future of the loss-making Global One, which serves multinational corporate customers, was put into question by last week's news that MCI WorldCom plans to acquire Sprint Corp, which owns 50 percent of Global One.

A combined WorldCom/Sprint would likely have to sell Global One in order to win regulatory approval for the deal, analysts have said.

Sprint Chief Executive William Esrey has said that one of the U.S. group's European partners was likely to buy its Global One share within the next two months.

Whatever happens to the Sprint stake, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom are unlikely to remain partners after an acrimonious row between the two over Deutsche Telekom's surprise but unsuccessful bid for Telecom Italia in April soured their relationship.

Asked whether Deutsche Telekom would consider buying out France Telecom's 25 percent, the company's spokesman said:

``We don't participate in speculation but everything is a question of price.'

Global One has more than 30,000 customers and annual revenues of $1.1 billion.

Sommer said that selling the stake would not be a blow to the German group's strategy because Global One was not a central part of its business.

``Our business depends relatively little on this project. Building alliances was popular for a time, but the future belongs to mergers and that's where we want to be decisive,' Sommer said.

Dear Gizelle: Who is this Penguin and what is his/her experience? I like the numbers but doubt it will be as good as that. As to DT I am not intimately familiar with them, however I used to own TLD who was a competitor of DT and used to read of DT now and again. My impression of DT is they are beuracratic (privatised not that long ago), swollen with inefficiency, cheap (ie they are not going to offer anything like $70 IMHO) and ultimately NOT a place that the current management of GBLX would be happy in. These comments are only my personal observations and I have not done the detailed DD that should be done to verify them, so take them with a grain of salt. JDN
