Hi All this morning....Well, thought I was so smart last night to sign up for the email....BUT this morning, like BLUE, it says it is assigned to another user.....I'm sure that it is some sort of glich...but thought you might be interested in the tech support note that comes immediately....Definitely is CommTouch....Don't you think they could write this in a little more understandable language...or is it just me.... So while my email should be just as we might guess (was last night) isn't at the minute....

This is a message from the Technical Support Department in response to the Technical Support Form you sent.

MY USER NAME OR PASSWORD IS NOT CORRECT.

The "incorrect user name or password" message appears due to one of the following:

1. Your user name and/or password is not correct.

Your user name is the first part of your E-mail address. The part before the '@' sign in your E-mail address is called the User Name in our E-mail service. Other services may refer to your user name as your login name or screen name. When you registered for your E-mail account you will choose your own user name, as long as no one else has previously selected it. This is due to the fact that user names must be unique. For example, if your E-mail address is "johndoe@domain.com, your "User Name" would be "johndoe". In the login page, type "johndoe" in "User Name" text box, then type your password in the "Password" text box. Click on the "Login" button.

Remember your User name is always the first part of your E-mail address. Your User Name can use the alphanumeric characters of a-z,0-9 plus the underscore.? _ ?, the dash ?-? and the period ?.?. In addition your user name CAN?T contain spaces.

2. Are you using the correct password?
If you have forgotten your password, click on the Password Reminder link on the Login page then supply your chosen reminder question & answer in order to reveal your correct password.

Your Password can use the alphanumeric characters: a-z, 0-9 and _ (the underscore). It cannot contain spaces and must be between 4-10 characters long.

3. You are trying to login to the wrong E-mail domain.

An E-mail address is a single line in the following format: user@host.domain. After the '@' sign is the name of the system under which the user's E-mail account resides, in this case: host.domain. There are several types of domains. Companies or commercial organizations use "com", for example. A sub-domain is the portion directly in front of the domain name, in this case: ?host?. For example, "commtouch.com" has a sub-domain of "commtouch" with a "com" domain, since CommTouch is a commercial organization.

There is also a two-letter domain structure for all countries. The USA is an exception to this rule. For the US ?com? stands for commercial organization. In most other countries the ?co? is used. Examples of country domains are ?uk? for United Kingdom, ?au? for Australia, ?ca? for Canada, etc. The following domains: @commtouch.com, @commtouch.co.uk, @touchcomm.com are all different. If you try to login to the wrong domain you will be rejected since you do not have an E-mail account on that domain.

4. Your browser setup is not configured for ?Accepting all Cookies?

Our E-mail Service requires cookies to operate. However, AOL, WebTV plus other ISP?s modify the standard Microsoft or Netscape browser for their particular system. This modification may change the way cookies are made and used, so they are different that the standard Internet cookie format. Therefore, even though cookies are enabled in your browser, our system may not recognize them properly. The results of this are actually having a cookie problem even though your browser cookie options are set correctly.

For AOL and similar modified browsers which are still computer based, a remedy for this problem is to use an external browser such as Netscape version 4.5 if you have MSIE installed as the internal browser or vice versa. We know AOL users who have installed both Netscape 4.x and MSIE 4.x as the external browser and have had no problem logging into their accounts, thus you might choose to do so as well. You may also try upgrading or replacing the default internal browser you are using with the general browser version. Depending upon your ISP, it may be possible to replace your current MSIE browser with the generic MSIE. If this is possible, you should be able to login to your E-mail account.

Unfortunately, for WebTV users using the WebTV television system/device, cookies are modified in a way that prevents our system from recognizing the modified cookie. Therefore, WebTV users will not be able to access their accounts. We have observed that some people can access their account from WebTV and others can't, it may depend on whether you are using a standard computer or a WebTV device. Therefore, WebTV users which use the WebTV television system/device will not be able to access their accounts until we modify our service to understand the special WebTV cookie format.

We are working diligently on a solution to the strange cookie behavior on many modified browsers. We expect that in coming months to introduce a fix that will allow all users (AOL, WebTV, ETC.) users to access their accounts.
