Mike, when you close a profit do you move money to cash to
re-establish the 90/10, or do you determine 90/10 at some date
of the year?

To All, The High Tech Strategist review. Great issue from Fred Hickey this month:

1. Fred hears that Intel had 2 million mpc cancellations at the end of Sept. That doesn't sound good. <g>

2. A long explanation on why Dell is in deep kimshee. I don't want to give away all of Fred's research and reasoning, but nuclear winter and Taiwanese earthquakes are only part of the problem at this pos.

3. Ditto for IBM, though he only talks about missed revenues. Like me, he has great respect for Louis the Lip's ability to fake the eps. Fred seems to think that they may be running out of accounting tricks. True, British regulators, IBM workers, and even regulators in the USA have been making noises that the Beamer has gone into science fiction with its creative accounting. That said, I think they will still fake this quarter and blame next quarter on the Earthquake and Y2K. After all, the regulators, newsmen, unions and common decency couldn't force Al Capone to change his way of doing business. Only Alcatraz could accomplish that. IBM seems to be cut from the same bolt of cloth. <g>

4. He refers to the new HWP scamster as Louis Gert in a skirt. I love it. It is obvious that the new HWP CEO has tried to emulate IBM's flim flam. However, the honesty culture at HWP runs deep and she is having some trouble. The fact that she came from Lucent, where "managed" eps growth without business success is the rule of thumb, supports his argument. I hate to see HWP go this route, but with the new carnival touts in charge, at least it is now a stock Paper Chase can buy. <g>

5. Fred rants on about Gateway's funny money accounting and vows to stay with it no matter what the adversity. He admits having given up to early on Microwarehouse, and that surrender being a big mistake. MWHS is one of my top 15 put winners this bubble cycle and I never gave up, so I am proud of that one. Yes, I did get reamed by Net Nazis for calling it "Microwhorehouse," but since the co. restated 3 years of dead skunk accounting, those particular goofs are no longer with us. <g>

6. He slams world class tout Larry Ellison pretty good.

7. Fred seems to have temporarily backed off on Micron. His comment is that it will run with DRAM prices. Uh, it didn't crash with DRAM prices, so why should it run up on this very temporary insanity? This is a rare disagreement I have with Fred. I think MU is due for a crash and burn, even if they report a nominal profit this quarter.

8. Fred notes that even at the Contrary Opinion Forum, most thought the Dow would be above 12,000 a year from now. Given the surrender in that particular audience, I would suspect the bubble is ready to pop.
Good Issue.
