Jim,

Check this out - whatisnew.com
This will take you to "What's new" page of an online computer store "ESC Technologies"(http://www.esctechsite.com)

In the comments (Oct 8, 1999) you can find this interesting information -

"Athlon systems now represent 27% of the shopping carts. Intel BX systems represent 5%. The remaining carts include sales of peripherals and single items; i.e. Computer cases, hard drives, DVD drives, and memory. Computer Cases represent a large percentage of sales. This is a huge shift from last quarter when complete systems were the major portion of the shopping carts."

Notice the shift to Athlon systems and DIY business(more components). Mind you, this is one online store giving current status of their online Shopping carts. The above link was taken from JC's News page.
