The major concern that I now have is whether or not the sands will have retained their porosity and permeability or be fractured so as to have both good "storage capacity" and "producibility". I personally have little doubt that the sands will be gas charged.

Yes, they could have issued them at a discount. And, they could even have issued them at a discount off a much lower stock price a couple of months ago.
