What she does is by accident. She knows enough to get into the machine and click here and there, and has shown a considerable talent for repeating what she has seen done. She's also very crafty: you'll see her quietly coloring in a book, apparently completely absorbed, and a few minutes later she isn't there anymore, and you know where she is...

A good deal of the supervision problem is that "supervision" usually means me sitting next to her, in front of the other computer. I'll set her up with one of her kiddie programs, and get involved in something, and she's click-clicking away, and suddenly I look over and it's something completely different, like "where are the spaceships?"

The real problem is that if Papa's working, and Joey's working (or playing), she wants to work too, and makes a terrific fuss if she can't. I don't think Joey was trying to keep me out, but he did take off for school without telling me that he had protected the computer or what the password was.

She really doesn't need much, and I could probably buy her something obsolete for very little, and make her happy. But I want the laptop, mobility being a real factor in my world, and Joey wants to upgrade too...

So I'll have a friend who's going over there pick up a laptop (the prices here are absurd), and blame it on Jenny. What are kids for?
