An effective, fast, and inexpensive source of data that many use with MetaStock is from QuotesPlus2: qp2.com

It's about $19/month if you don't use mutual fund data. The software that comes with it is about $50. You can do prelim. scans with QP2 and have the output written in "Virtual MS" mode so it is immediately accessible to Metastock (which I do not own).
