Dan,

I don't think we were talking about 8-port units. The discussion I remember was about smaller switches that approach hubs in pricing. Dave Hanson bought the D-Link I believe. These are the two units we were looking at:

buy.com

I never bought anything. Couldn't come up with a good reason for doing so (eg. needing a network).

>>recommendation on a 8 port hub?

Dan, sorry not to have answered earlier - catching up slowly on the thread after my recent burial and memorial service <g>.

I bought an 8-port Hawking Technology switch model PN808ES several months ago for (about) $150.

It's a 10/100 full duplex switch. Each port is full duplex at 100mb in each direction simultaneously, independent of the others. Auto sensing by port. I currently run 4 ports at 100mb and 2 at 10. I've been very pleased with it.

Except for the inevitable network setup time when a network drive hasn't been accessed for a while, I can't tell the difference between a network disk and a local disk, at least subjectively. I haven't done any benchmarks--must do that one of these days.
