My records indicate that the S&P Dec Futures had a low of 1278.60 on Sep 29th, closing that day at 1279.90..

I believe the author was referring to the fact that the index had already closed beneath 1292.50, thereby indicating a possible bear market, waiting confirmation with a close below 1267.00..
