I am not proposing that Lucent alone can topple Cisco. But any failure to execute on Cisco's part in combination with Lucent building the appropriate arsenal, can be the first blow. Couple that with a growing desire by many of Cisco's customers for a viable alternative due to pricing and customer satisfaction issues and you have more then a small leak in the dam.

Keep in mind, the success Cisco has experienced so far has been largely through acquisition of technology, Lucent has the single most productive technical incubator in history, in their back pocket.
