Nice job, Brad and team, Ian. +++++++++++++++++ Monday October 11, 8:59 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Mattson Technology Enhances Taiwan Earthquake Relief Program Company Donates to Area Orphanage FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 1999--Mattson Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTSN - news), a leading supplier of advanced process equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, today announced it will enhance its Taiwan earthquake relief program. Developed in response to the devastating September earthquake in Taiwan, Mattson Technology has increased its ongoing support to both the communities and its customers afflicted by the disaster in the region. As part of this program, Brad Mattson, Mattson Technology's CEO, will present a donation of $50,000 (U.S.) on behalf of the company to the Chinese Fund for Children and Family/Taiwan (CCF/Taiwan). CCF/Taiwan established the 921 Special Program for children orphaned as a result of the September earthquake. Mattson Technology has been an active contributor to community enrichment programs in the Taiwan region. The company's recent donation to Saint Joseph's Center for Special Education School for developmentally challenged students was made during the Semicon Taiwan tradeshow just a few days before the earthquake. Mattson stated that the donation was a small gesture in the face of the huge hardships the students at the school face daily. He also said that there is a larger role the company can play at this time. ''We are in a position to extend our efforts to provide additional community relief during this critical time,'' noted Mattson. ''In addition to our employees and customers, we are focused on helping as many people as we can especially those who need assistance after the earthquake.'' With an established worldclass customer support infrastructure in Taiwan, Mattson Technology was able to quickly organize additional support to strengthen its customer service efforts in the region. Mattson Technology assembled and sent additional customer support teams to Taiwan to assist customers in quickly getting their facilities up and running at full capacity. ''Our teams are evaluating damages and making recommendations at 11 fabs simultaneously,'' said Mattson. The Chinese Fund for Children and Families/Taiwan was established in 1950 to provide custodial care for children with families undergoing crisis and for children without legal guardians. Until last month's earthquake, the number of children needing custodial care was approximately 21,000 per month. After the earthquake, however, the number has mushroomed to an estimated 50,000 children, leaving local community agencies scrambling for funds to take care of the huge influx of newly orphaned children. Mattson Technology specifically chose to donate to the orphanage because of the fierce competition between different agencies to secure limited public donations. Mr. Micky Wang, president of CCF/Taiwan stated, ''Mattson's donation is greatly appreciated, and there is so much more to be done. We hope other companies will come forward to help these children without families.'' With support from companies like Mattson Technology, the 921 Special Program will provide adoption, emergency rearing and long-term scholarship services for the recently orphaned children.
