Tellabs MartisDXX(TM) A111 Service Multiplexer Provides Flexible Bandwidth Over SDH -- Enables Datakom Austria to Multiplex Different Speeds and Types of Traffic

LISLE, Ill., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB - news) today announced the MartisDXX A111 multiplexer, an integrated multiplexer node that expands service delivery capabilities and capacities of MartisDXX networks and seamlessly interfaces customer access to synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) backbone networks.

Tellabs will be showing the MartisDXX A111 multiplexer Oct. 10-17 at the Telecom '99 in Geneva, Switzerland. Tellabs will be exhibiting in Stand 1120, Hall 1 at the PalExpo Center.

MartisDXX A111 enables business service providers to consolidate and manage traffic at the customer premises or at a point of presence (POP) site using a topology such as ring or star. For mobile operators, the A111 manages bandwidth between different switches and consolidation nodes in the network, and aggregates traffic from base stations, eliminating the need for expensive switch ports.

``With the MartisDXX A111 multiplexer, we have a highly effective way to multiplex different types and speeds of services for transport through our SDH backbone,' said Hans Zanke, head of the Datastream Department at Datakom Austria. ``Additionally, the A111 multiplexer will provide a great step forward for Datakom Austria with its powerful access capabilities and possibility to use in the customer premises.'

MartisDXX A111 multiplexer provides a gateway to the backbone network by multiplexing a wide range of circuit- and packet-based services including plesiochronous digital hierarchy (PDH), ATM, IP, frame relay and digital subscriber line (xDSL). With the A111 multiplexer, services including leased line, LAN and PBX interconnection and Internet access are cost effectively delivered and managed through one platform, with support for multiple service speeds ranging from 64 Kilobits per second to 8 Megabits per second.

The A111 node is available now and has electrical and optical STM-1 (155 Mbps) interfaces for connecting to an SDH backbone or building access rings. It has a service delivery capacity of one STM-1, which can be fully protected.

The MartisDXX A111 multiplexer integrates seamlessly into MartisDXX networks and is fully supported by the latest MartisDXX Manager Release 10.1A, providing end-to-end management. The MartisDXX Manager Network Management System (NMS) is an essential tool for managing the entire network and its elements through an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI). Network services can be remotely managed, maintained and reconfigured through one platform.

The MartisDXX system provides operators with a migration path from the current time-division multiplexed (TDM)-based service platforms to next-generation data communications access platforms through an integrating network and services management system.

The MartisDXX system is currently deployed in more than 180 networks and 70 countries worldwide, providing intelligent transport for mobile services and multiservice platforms for a broad range of business services, including LAN interconnect, digital leased line, frame relay and PBX interconnection.

Tellabs designs, manufactures, markets and services data, voice and video transport, switching/routing and network access systems. The company's products are used worldwide by the providers of communications services. Tellabs stock is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market (TLAB).
