Large price swings are a sign of interest in the stock and
recognition of its potential is reflected in the premium multiple.
If there were no institutional interest the price would bw rather steady, retail investors don't move this stock one iota.
If there are only a few institutional holders then they will be registered in SEC docs. I'm not trying to pick a fight over your presumptions, fuzzy logic is ok, but fuzzy facts are not! -g-.

The most drastic drops in stock valuations come on issues which have
high institutional holdings (80% is high but often encountered). My guess is that in these situations the last 20% of the holdings are hedge funds and the like looking for a moonshot or otherwise with tight stops on disruptions in the story they were given at the presentation.

The percentage I like the best is a good story at the 15%-30% level
of institutional holdings: plenty of room for them to buy in with 10k lots.
