KZ, I know you won't be around to read this, but just for this thread, I'll reply here.

I think your argument basically centers around the huge hurdle that RDRAM presents at this stage in time. Your argument is more for a gradual transition to higher transfer rates.

My only argument against DDR-II is that it might be too little too late. So far, Intel is still committed to Rambus, despite all of the short-term problems, and despite the stop-gap support for PC133 SDRAM. By the time DDR hits the market in any significant volumes, the short-term problems of RDRAM will already have been tackled. After that, RDRAM will look much better going forward than the DDR-to-DDR-II route.
