Peter Lynch would be proud of you, John <g>. Perhaps NY Stew will respond to your question.

JohnG,

Also, I noted that the three advertising spaces on the left side of the screen were being used for a PIP, a TV program promo, and a top 50 music listing. Somehow I don't think this usage was generating advertising revenues--or at least very little. Do you know if there exists a more advanced program than Guide+ in those areas with cable modems or is all of that future stuff.

Gemstar currently has between 600K-900K 2nd generation (advertising capable) guides in the US market. They have NBC and ABC as charter advertisers which pay a fixed fee at this point (I believe .50/unit/qtr) because the base is small. Henry has talked of two deployment milestones, 2 and 5 million. The first being sufficient to change the advertising rev model to a CPM rate card and the second for a good CPM and more Madison Ave appeal. Whereas the latter goal would have been a year or two away they should get there in 3-6 months with the TV Guide acquisition. The TV Guide IPG has about 2.3 million subs to date and passes over 34 million homes.

TV Guide Interactive: tvguideinc.com

The GuidePlus IPG will be the native guide in CE devices. The viewer will not pay any sub fees. This platform by design will always be a level below TV Guide in terms of interactivity. From the reviews that I have read the best guide out there now is the Gemstar licensed WebTV Plus guide but this will change as TV Guide incorporates more features now that the litigation fears are gone.

FWIW: My apology for last night. I needed a designated poster. Where are those meetings?

Regards
Stew
