Stcgg:

RE: CMGI

You do know $10 bil CMGI has $500 mil in cash, $3 bil (as of 7/31/99 BEFORE the rally) in public equity holdings (HLYW, LCOS, YHOO, AMZN, SILK, ENGA, CMDX, CPTH, etc), or that they earned a real $4.74 (about a $1/2 bil) per share for last QUARTER ? They also have AltaVista which will IPO in 2000 for AT LEAST the $2 bil they paid. Then again there are the interests both minority and majority (some wholly CMGI owned) in about 75 private companies.

This ain't no YHOO earning $374 THOUSAND in after tax net for the last nine months with a $65 bil (including 50 mil in $23/avg options outstanding) market cap.

That said, here is an article about the bullschit accounting heinz and I have been moaning about in the nuts:

I know that Amazon isn't showing a profit....but to include CMGI in that list is just stating that you haven't researched the company, it's profitability, it's growth, it's management and maybe have included it by mistake....there are many, many examples of companies selling merchandise at a loss and doing it rather energetically, but this is not one.
