twister: By your posts I assume that the only criteria you base your "good company" on are the financial numbers? You do not place any value on product quality, good corporate citizenship, vision, and honesty via your support of MSFT. Let's get a little philosophical here. Good companys, IMHO, are a combination of good financial numbers, excellent product quality, good corporate citizenship, and above all honesty (if the company does not have honesty, then the consumer can not trust the company's products). SUNW passes all these criteria with flying colors, MSFT (IMHO) flunks everything except excellent financials and based on that it is not a good investment (admittedly by my humble standards). Basicly, I do not want my investment dollars being given to a bunch of dirtballs. Your investment strategy may be different, but if everyone broadened their basis for investment maybe we could weed out professional BS'ers such as MSFT.

SEC data is great, and I use it frequently, but you have to think in terms of the future rather than the past if you are going to succeed in the stock market.

BTW, the "Earnings History" on the pages I cited show that those estimates have been pretty close, albeit conservative, in the case of Sun, and generally within about 15% (again conservative) in the case of Microsoft. They're not wildly optimistic, as you imply.

People here have been telling me for years that I'm crazy to invest in Sun -- ever since I first joined SI, in fact. I suspect I've made a lot more money than most of them.

JMHO.
