Well that was pretty much my point. The national interest will always take precedence over the interest of some supranational body - unless those interests coincide, and the supranational organ can be used for PR.
Joan brought up the sovereignty issue, and that is the tough nut of your proposal. Granted - sovereignty brings with it the option to disregard the rest of the community's values. But that isn't always a bad thing ... I have grave doubts that our Bill of Rights would survive a serious integration into a world government. I am quite jealous of the Bill of Rights. And if we submit to UN judicial review - we have a government above the President.
I would not be happy with that, on balance.
