Dave; No I didn't notice, I gave up tracking it when I started my own index , I call it the DVI ( dollar value traded ) using the Top 10 to 12, 3 mouth avg Dollar Volume traded for any index . ie Volume X price = dollar volume. I find using the most popular traded by dollar amount beats using market cap type index and the market tends to follow their lead. I compare my DVI to the regular indexes and look for a divergence. This is what I've been using for the QQQ , or NDX I may need to add qcom Symbol Last Trade Chg Value Change Volume Avg Vol Gain ^NDX Oct 8 2555.36 +23.36 $0.00 +0.92% N/A N/A $0.02 +10.68% MSFT Oct 8 94 15/16 +1 3/16 $17.81 +1.27% 17,848,500 26,848,136 $91.88 +6.90% INTC Oct 8 75 11/16 +1/16 $0.44 +0.08% 18,179,400 24,186,680 $56.88 +12.03% CSCO Oct 8 71 13/16 +15/16 $6.56 +1.32% 15,414,200 18,229,636 $62.12 +14.10% WCOM Oct 8 76 7/8 +1 1/8 $6.75 +1.49% 16,717,600 14,106,681 -$64.88 -12.33% DELL Oct 8 45 1/2 +1 1/8 $4.50 +2.54% 28,408,900 25,892,500 $13.50 +8.01% QCOM Oct 8 213 15/16 +13 3/8 $40.12 +6.67% 5,256,500 9,193,818 $178.69 +38.58% SUNW Oct 8 92 9/16 -1 3/4 -$3.50 -1.86% 14,633,700 9,180,590 $42.00 +29.34% ORCL Oct 8 45 1/4 +9/16 $1.12 +1.26% 7,137,800 11,982,590 $16.38 +22.09% YHOO Oct 8 192 1/8 +1 7/8 $1.88 +0.99% 9,343,700 9,235,681 $60.81 +46.31% AMAT Oct 8 82 1/4 -3/16 -$0.19 -0.23% 9,798,500 7,875,681 $9.69 +13.35% CMGI Oct 8 112 1/2 -1 1/8 -$1.12 -0.99% 4,538,100 4,967,500 $22.25 +24.65%
12 symbols Totals(USD): $74.38+1.72% ----------- It shows positive but the volume is not confirming it enough to suit me. Also the VIX is too low for me to want to go long.
If this starts dropping as the NDX goes on up or holds and the VIX stays low , I'll be ready to short.
I like to catch my DVI reversing before the index does and catch the VIX on her extremes. I seldom use any of the other popular indicators any more. I'm sold on the DVI. Jim
