I know what you mean. I used to try that to throw people off but I finally decided to just be myself. I converse with people who's English is not the primary language during my job and believe me, my English has mutated into something I can't even recognize. I work and travel Internationally which really takes a toll on my linguistics. I'll be in Germany next week, starting the 16th (Saturday) and won't be back until the 30th (Saturday). I feel I will need to defend myself so I'm opting to take my laptop with me during this vacation. :( My work region is Asia Pacific, so I'm going to try Europe for vacation.
