I wish I could give you a well reasoned answer, but I just dont have the true facts. I suppose I really should learn more...

My bottom line is that I'm still thinking "what kind of service will eventually give everyone their own 2 way video line?". It *must* be a a wire. Fiber. Nothing else can cut it. HFC is the transition technology to fiber.

You say that satellite can do 1000 Mbits. Thats obviously total channel capacity, not capacity/person. What physical range will that satellite cover? How many people? Imagine 60-80% broadband penetration. Could satellite cut it? Wireless? I very much doubt it.

Dont forget that the current SLC trials are for the cable capacity to be split between only 50 homes. Maybe 25 people using it at once tops. That is the power of the wire.

I'm not even vaguely an expert, but every time I delve into the details I see many orders of magnitude between any air based system and the needs of the masses.
