I notice no citation to biblical authority was given for the notion that "charity begins at home." Is it, in fact, part of Christian belief to prefer one's own family to others in need? Weren't the apostles directed to leave their families to follow Christ?

C,

<<Charity begins at home.>>

Very good, Colleen. "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those in his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."

<<I also mentioned that God gave me common sense and financial wisdom to provide for my family.>>

"And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."

<<I give to the poor through my church, which I am the bookkeeper for, on a voluntary basis, so I know exactly how money is being spent. I also do other types of volunteer work in my community.>>

"Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to harken than the fat of rams."
