Actually I would disagree with you on this. The advent of the internet has allowed shorts to both research a company more effectively and to raise questions about the company and the officers and put it on a public forum. I have seen shorts get a company shut down more than once.
For all of the longs 'Do your DD' posts, I have yet to see one suddenly say "This is a scam look what I have uncovered." It is always the shorts or occasionally someone who likes to bust scams who does it. The only time longs seem to see the scam is when the trumpets are sounding and the walls tumbling down.
Shorts can and do raise questions that keep longs out of a company and other times even manage to expose it before the company can fully milk its victims. Both are most unwelcome services to the scam artists.
