Sun Starfire(TM) Server and Sun StorEdge(TM)
Arrays Set Performance Record For Amdocs
Ensemble Platform for Telecommunications Industry

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Microsystems Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - news) today reported industry leading performance running the Amdocs (NYSE: DOX - news) Ensemble customer care, billing and ordering platform for the telecommunications industry.

In this benchmark, Amdocs' Ensemble platform, running on a Sun Enterprise(TM) 10000 server (also known as Starfire(TM)) and Sun StorEdge(TM) A5200 arrays, handled transaction volumes and customer information for 40 million subscribers -- demonstrating the ability to handle workloads indicative of telecommunications carriers.

The performance results demonstrate the scalability of the Amdocs Ensemble platform deployed on Sun systems.
Amdocs' Ensemble system processed 116,000,000 call detail records (CDRs) per hour using a single Starfire server. The
system also achieved sustained bill preparation rates of 1,240,000 per hour on a single server.

The performance test used an environment reflecting typical production conditions for a large telecommunications carrier, based on a representative mix of corporate, business and residential customers.

Starfire server delivered 59x speedup on 64 CPUs, demonstrating linear scalability and proving the system's overall capacity and ability to accommodate very large databases and mixed workloads on a single system. The system, running Amdocs Ensemble, Oracle 8i (version 8.1 database) and Solaris(TM) 7 Operating Environment, was configured with 64 UltraSPARC(TM) II 400 MHZ CPUs, each including 8 MB external cache and 64 GB of memory combined with 9 Sun StorEdge A5200 modular disk arrays, totalling 2 TB of storage. The tests were conducted at Sun's Large Scale
Computing Center in Beaverton, Oregon.

``Our recently signed reseller agreement and the performance results, solidify Sun and Amdocs commitment to providing
leading solutions for the telecom industry,' said Shahin Khan, director of marketing for Sun's Data Center and High
Performance Computing Product group. ``The Starfire server continues to demonstrate its ability to run at over 99 percentsystem utilization, proving that the system is unsurpassed in both performance and capacity for these types of very large and mixed application workloads.'

``The impressive results of this benchmark demonstrate the scalability and performance of our customer care and billing
system, making our Ensemble system the clear choice to meet the high volume requirements of telecom leaders,' said
Norman Rafalowitz, Amdocs Senior Vice President of International Marketing. ``We are pleased to be working with Sun,offering our customers such highly reliable and proven end-to-end solutions that can address the necessary high
performance and large capacity elements required for their mission-critical production environments.'

In related news, Sun and Amdocs recently announced a global reseller agreement. Amdocs will now resell and support
the Sun platform. Amdocs systems will be deployed in the Sun environment using the highly-scalable Sun Enterprise and
carrier-grade servers, running the Solaris operating environment. These systems provide current and future
telecommunications customers with an open standards-based environment that scales seamlessly as businesses expand.
