Yes, it's true that 3DNOW was released before SSE. I think it was somewhere between 6-9 months before, correct?

However I would be willing to bet that there are quite a few more Pentium III machines out there than K6-2, K6-3 and Athelon machines combined.

I would believe this to be true even in the consumer market.

In spite of the fact that 3DNOW was out to the market first, there was very little that was optimized for 3DNOW before SSE came along. (except for D3D release DX6.0 - D3D didn't get SSE optimizations until DX6.1)
