** Chips ** I have not found this posted anywhere on SI. I have no idea whether the article is credible as it refers to unidentified sources. But I find it amazing nonetheless. If someone has the article please post it:

Chip Shortage After Taiwan Quake Worse Than Expected, FT Says

Tokyo, Oct. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Taiwanese semiconductor makers, which halted production after last month's earthquake damaged their production facilities, won't be able to resume shipments probably for another two to three months, the Financial Times said yesterday, citing unidentified Japanese industry executives and analysts. Japanese customers expect it will take as long as five months before Taiwanese chip output reaches pre- earthquake levels. Taiwanese suppliers had expected to resume production two to three weeks after the earthquake, which hit the island on Sept. 21.

The quake will shave as much as half a percent off Taiwan's economic growth this year, economists and the government have said.

** DJ Utility Average ** Looks like the rally has failed in the utility average even though the stock market continues to climb. Not a favorable sign as it signals interest rate concerns:

** Watch the Internets ** Interesting that the NASDAQ goes to new highs but some of the sled dog interent companies led by YAHOO (-5.6%) had down days. See also AMZN and AOL to a lesser extent. With interest rate concerns present and rising, we may have reached a short term inflection point for the nets here. They are due to retrace IMO and must be watched closely as they have been the relative strength of late.
