You need to revisit the difference between a Forward & Future. And then you'd see that they aren't the same. And that ABX using a forward can use their confirmed production as collateral. It's not like a grain producer using a future. Reserve assets of one is not like the production of another. So if you have the creditability which comes with a triple A rating, and you call your broker and say Sell 50 Forwards at $350. They take you at your word, enter the trade, and you wait until expiration for delivery... You better have it that day too, else loose that rating.

ABX does not partake of Knockouts, but I wonder if they have done swaps as of late. That would be interesting to know. Maybe this is why they said they would be changing the hedge data. Before, they disclosed NO swaps. But that was then, this is now. Maybe they have traded a few swaps with others that couldn't deliver.
