Somebody's got to defend criminals, it's one of the cornerstones of our justice system. Everyone accused of a crime is entitled to legal defense, and if a person is accused of a felony, or a misdemeanor carrying a jail sentence of a year, then they can have court-appointed counsel if they can't afford to hire a lawyer. That's not liberalism, and it's not a political agenda, it's the law.

The ACLU probably defended the guy because no one else wanted to.

He forgave the perp and gave him a hug. I think it was guilty on a minor charge.
