Was out for a walk this am and walked by the local lost and found outlet and wouldn't you know they had the real SF 49 defense there.

Sorry couldn't resist as today is a holiday up here.

<<My concept of timing relates to finding low entry points and high exit points, and the purchase strategy is more akin to bottom fishing. Otoh, you are trying to accumulate for a LT hold and obtain a favorable cost basis within a fairly narrow trading range.>>

Well, it seems to me those are simply longer-term and shorter-term versions of the same basic process (if one leaves out the "exit" part of the first approach). Since we all seem to agree that a) the basics of one's investments should relate to fundamentals and prospects, and b) timing is potentially valuable but difficult to do, the difference between the short-term and long-term approaches relates less to substance than to risk/reward ratios.

My short-term approach, in other words, gives me relatively little upside (in this case, 5%) but also relatively little downside (unless there's a huge near-instantaneous leap upwards). The longer-term approach you refer to as "bottom-fishing" has greater potential upside (all of our companies dip by at least 30% on occasion), but also greater potential downside (missing out on a substantial run-up).

<<Now we can focus the spotlight on you instead of analyzing my undisciplined approach to G&K acquisitions>>

well, in keeping with my abysmal timing record, the initial moves have generally been up and away from the purchase prices rather than down to my limits, so there could be lots of fun at my expense by Thursday... :(
