You are of course correct about Germany's soccer team. I thought I had expressed already they are among those who have qualified above their own standards. In '98 they played old-fashioned football, and even they did it slowly. Additionally there was a change in the rules concerning tackling from back-side, which the German coach had not taken for serious, and that proved crucial for their non-tactic playing attitude. The coach had been in there only because the Chancellor had continouusly invoked him to stay ... :-).
