THREAD ---Lucent Technologies' McGinn on Acquisition Outlook: Comment
10/11/99 11:28:00 AM
Source: Bloomberg News
Geneva, Oct. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The following are comments by Rich McGinn, chief executive of Lucent Technologies Inc., the largest phone-equipment maker, on the outlook for further acquisitions. He made the comments in an interview at the Telecom ྟ exhibition in Geneva.
''We've said in a boringly consistent fashion that from time to time we will acquire capability, human capability, the intellectual property that people have, positions in markets and leading edge technologies to augment what we're doing in the primary areas of growth. We've now made 29 acquisition pretty much spread out among four years and we would expect to continue our substantial organic growth and compliment that with acquisitions going forward. We think that business model makes very good sense for us.''

''The primary growth engines for us remain as they have been for the past 24 months: Wireless, data networking, advanced semiconductor technology, software and engineering services. You will continue to see us invest heavily in those areas of growth.''
