Greenspan does not belong, then. If outstanding is understood to me worth something, instead of destructive, than one can leave off the great dictators, of course...You beat me to Churchill, but I would add FDR. In art, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, at a minimum. In literature, James Joyce and T.S. Eliot, perhaps I will add others. In "higher" music, Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern; in "middle" music, Duke Ellington and George Gershwin; in "lower" music, Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. In science, Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr. In cinema, Charles Chaplin and Ingmar Bergman, perhaps. In philosophy, Martin Heidegger; in architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright; in invention, the Wright Brothers and Marconi. This is not exhaustive, and it off the top of my head, but it will do for the moment.....
