It is my belief that in some ways it was smarmier. The British Left is a nauseating cocktail of intellectual elitism masquerading as populism, and traditional British snobbery masquerading as "high brow" refinement. They used to attack her about the outfits she wore, her lower middle class rectitude, her "Americanism", and so on....Did you ever see "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover", with Helen Mirren? It is the epitome of British Leftwing snobbery and stupidity, a truly worthless "poetic" critique of Thatcherism.....
