=DJ SkyMall Stk -2: Analyst Says Stk Tends To Trade Up In 4Q

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Shares of SkyMall Inc. (SKYM) shot up nearly 42% Tuesday, but
neither the catalog company nor industry analysts could not point to a specific reason
for the climb.
The stock recently traded at 7 7/16, up 2 3/16, or 41.7%, on volume of 422,000 shares,
compared with a daily average of 65,600.
SkyMall, which puts its catalogs in airplane seat pockets, has not released any news
and knows of no fundamental reason for the stock's rise, said Executive Vice President
Christine Aguilera.
The jump could signal renewed faith in SkyMall's Internet ventures, she said. Last
year, the company plunged into e-commerce, developing Web sites to sell its wares. It
will spend $27 million this year building its electronic presence.
Also, she said, SkyMall's acquisition last week of interactive CD company Disc
Publishing Inc. has prompted calls from interested airline customers and could also be
giving the stock a kick.
Analyst Dennis McAlpine of Ryan Beck Southeast Research said the stock's move appears
to be "more of a trading phenomenon than a fundamental move." Over the past 10 months,
SkyMall slowly floated down from a high of 48 set in late December because investors were
skeptical about its Internet plan.
McAlpine also said the stock tends to trade higher and on heavier volume in the fourth
quarter before the holiday season.
