The absence of religion does not mandate the presence of socialism.

I don't think you would find very many Americans, on this thread or elsewhere, who want the State to ban the practice of religion. I think you will find a good number who want to ban the practice of any specific religion from any state-supported function.

The reasons for this are so clear, obvious, and logical that I don't think it in any way necessary to explain them.

The Soviet experiment of promoting atheism was as complete a failure as was compulsory religion in my schools. While few free people were able to protest Soviet compulsion, it clearly annoyed millions. There is almost nothing worse that government sponsorship and compulsion of religion. Leave it strictly alone is my point.

As for Christianity promoting murder, one only read the Bible edge to edge. God is depicted as a murderous runaway ambitious divinity who kills his enemies by the thousands, kills people who have different religious beliefs, kills people who commit sodomy, kills Jews when they stray from the narrow path, kills priests daughters who are impure, kills, kills, kills, and finally, kills his own son as a "sacrifice" and then kills his followers and brother and finally destroys the Temple. He kills Sapphira and Ananias out of greed. How could children raised in such a bloodthirsty creed think that murder was wrong?
