<<Was wondering what you folks think of DSL? I would be using it for running RT III. Should I go with ADSL or SDSL?>>

Take my advice go with cable like @home. I have been using it for about a year now for trading. It runs wonderful, dependable and fast.
If you trade out of your home you probably already have cable tv so it's no big deal setting it up.

As for RT III, I use it as well. What can I say - executions or placing orders are measured in nanoseconds. For instance I place an bid on ISLD I click OK and my order is there - just like that. Confirmations on buying on the offer are immediate.

More and more daytrading firms using RT III recommend cable. IT's cheap and fast.

Should I go with ADSL or SDSL?

Go with the one you can get for the lowest cost. Both are more than adequate for RT III. However, ADSL in most cases will be the lowest cost. You only need one phone line with ADSL. With ADSL the digital signal and your telephone signal are carried in the same pair of wires. A splitter is used to separate the signals at a residence. Plus ADSL should be more widely available than SDSL because customers can be farther away from a central station than with SDSL. The disadvantage of ADSL is it is much slower in uploading files than downloading files. But as your application is RT III this won't bother you. If you are running a server than SDSL is a better choice as it has the same speed in both directions. However, in most cases SDSL will require two phone lines, one for your digital signal and one for your telephone signal.

I guess I can finally get DSL through Ameritech!

I have been checking their sight for months and they have always said it wasn't available. Checked tonight and after I waded through all the bull about their accelerated deployment (required due to their recent merger) I checked my address and it said AVAILABLE.

Cool. I'll call first thing Monday morning. I'm sure it will take forever to get it set up.

Cost: $49.95 month. $150 setup fee and they waive the equipment charge of $199.

Speed: 768 kbps downloads and 128 kpbs uploads. Since I don't upload much the upload speed isn't critical.

I always said my weak link in my system was my internet connection ( I have been using 128k ISDN for the past few years). Now I'll want a new computer when the new line is in :) I can't wait!
