Re: "Dan, this idiotic notion of yours looks pretty foolish in light of
this Register posting ..."

Re: this notion of yours...

Try to make sense of the points listed by Goutama without the application of pressure, if not threats:
=========================================
It could have been a complete report, if register had inquired into --

- Why ASUS doesn't want to market their board under their name?
- Why ASUS is delaying marketing their board in USA?
- How come, Microstar(MSI), Gigabyte, ASUS, etc., don't show
Athlon motherboards on their web pages?
- Didn't initially, ASUS announce that they were not going
to make Athlon mobos, but changed their mind after
pressure from computer enthusiasts?

In fact, on the last point, Asus was one of the originally committed manufacturers, and was expected to be the lead source. The issues we discuss on these boards aren't too important to me unless they start to affect my work. I've seen the specs on the Asus board, I would like to be able to specify it for some of the projects that I work on. I've specified the MSI board at this point, and from the tests I've seen it will do a fine job, but I find it damned suspicious that the Asus board is available everywhere but here, and I'm a little uncomfortable that MSI has removed almost all references to it's Athlon board from its site. We do software development with an emphasis on GIS, and CPU performance is very important. I hate being denied the tools we need due to a racketeer's intimidation of the market.

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink is more than enough when you hold the kind of market power that Intel holds, if you're willing to stoop to using it.
