I'm not sure about "nothing better than" but Lev Bronstein was a brilliant and committed revolutionary. An excellent but long biography is The Prophet Armed. I remember his being murdered when I was a child. There is no speculating about the world's future had he succeeded Lenin. You are correct about Snowball. In the original Life version (largely in cartoons), I believe Snowball wore pince-nez -- the token of Trotsky ( & FDR). Unfortunately, I went to school before the book.
